Recently my friend Andrea and I decided to have an adventure. So we donned our cameras and hopped on the LA Metro.
I had never been on the subway here before. Out of the nearly 2 and a half years I’ve lived in LA I’ve always driven, or occasionally (very occasionally) walked. The Metro didn’t seem to go anywhere I needed it to. But finally it did! I’m roughly a 10 minute walk from the Hollywood and Highland stop and so we trudged there and headed for downtown.
It was fantastic! I’ve completely missed public transportation. After 4 years in Boston, LA was quite the change, and the lack of subway commuting seemed so very un-city-like to me. But finally I felt at home! The next city I move to will definitely have an extensive subway system.
We jumped off at Pershing Square and stood around for a good minute like deer in the headlights.
Which way do we go?
Guess it doesn’t really matter right? Lets go this way.
And so we were off.
Seeing LA by foot is a completely different experience than seeing it by car. People are normally all shut up in their cars, solitary, and ever so inaccessible. But when we were walking around Andrea and I found that so many people were eager to talk to us, and tell us facts about what we were looking at, and even pose for pictures. And so our day passed quite quickly. Full of stories and walking and lots and lots of photos.
The next few batches of photos will be from our adventure, and hopefully I documented it well.
